What image formats does PhotoRelief Pro support?
PhotoRelief Pro accepts JPEG, PNG, and HEIC image files. You can import images directly from your Photos library or use the in-app camera to capture a new photo. For best results, use high-resolution images (at least 1000 × 1000 px).
How do I get the best depth map from my photo?
For the most detailed depth map:
- Use a high-contrast image — subjects with clear light/dark differentiation produce better relief detail
- Portrait photos work especially well because faces have natural depth variation
- Avoid very busy backgrounds — simple or solid backgrounds help the AI isolate the subject
- Adjust the depth intensity slider after processing to control how pronounced the 3D effect is
What file formats can I export my depth map in?
Depth maps can be exported as PNG (recommended for most laser software), JPEG, or BMP. PNG preserves the grayscale depth information most accurately and is compatible with LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, LaserGRBL, and most other engraving software.
How do I adjust the depth levels and intensity?
After your depth map is generated, use the editing sliders on the results screen:
- Depth Intensity: Controls how dark the deep areas are — higher values create more dramatic relief
- Contrast: Sharpens the transition between depth levels for crisper edge detail
- Invert: Flips the depth map if your engraver needs dark = raised vs. dark = recessed

My laser engraver isn't producing the relief effect I expected — what should I check?
A few things to check in your laser software before engraving:
- Make sure you're importing the depth map as a grayscale image (not a binary/black-and-white)
- Enable grayscale mode or "photo engraving" mode in your laser software
- Start with lower power and higher speed settings and run a test on scrap material
- Try inverting the depth map in PhotoRelief Pro if the relief is going the wrong direction
- Use a line interval (DPI) between 150–300 LPI for detailed relief work
Can I use PhotoRelief Pro with any laser engraver?
Yes. PhotoRelief Pro exports standard grayscale PNG/JPEG files that are compatible with virtually any diode or CO₂ laser engraver and engraving software, including LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, LaserGRBL, K40 Whisperer, and others. The app handles image processing — your laser software handles the actual engraving parameters.
The depth map export isn't working — what should I try?
If the export button doesn't respond or the share sheet doesn't appear:
- Make sure PhotoRelief Pro has permission to access your Photos library (Settings → Privacy → Photos → PhotoRelief Pro)
- Check that you have enough storage space on your device
- Close the app completely and reopen it, then try again
If the issue continues, contact us with your device model and iOS version.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through your app store:
- iPhone/iPad: App Store → Profile → Subscriptions → PhotoRelief Pro → Cancel
- Android: Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions → PhotoRelief Pro → Cancel
Access remains active until the end of the paid billing period.
