We want you to know exactly what this program does with your information. This is the same list that is in MEND under Settings. Our privacy policy has the legal detail.

Stays on your computer

  • The fix log: what each fix was, when it ran and how it ended.
  • Your settings, your license and your AI settings. If you add an Anthropic key, it is encrypted with your computer’s secure storage when that is available (if it is not, the key is kept only until you close MEND).
  • Reports you export are saved only where you choose.
  • All of this is in one folder. Settings → Show my MEND data folder opens it. Uninstalling MEND and deleting that folder removes it.

Sent to Code Crafted Nexus: the license check

WhatYour license key, a scrambled (hashed) ID for your computer, the computer name, your system type (Windows or macOS) and the MEND version.
WhenWhen you activate, when you deactivate, at start-up and about every 12 hours.
WhyTo check that your key is valid and is used on one computer only.
NeverYour files, your scan results, or anything about what you scan or fix.

Sent to Anthropic: only if you turn the AI assistant on

WhatWhat you type and short summaries of check results. Names, addresses and ID numbers (such as computer names, account names, email addresses, IP and hardware addresses and serial numbers) are masked on your computer first.
Not sentYour files, passwords, browsing data, or raw logs.
WhoAnthropic, using your own API key. Usage is billed to your Anthropic account, and Anthropic’s own terms and privacy policy apply to it. We never see these messages.
ControlIt is off until you turn it on. A preview shows exactly what would be sent. You can turn it off again at any time.

Other connections

  • Cloudflare: only when you press the speed test, to measure speed and delay.
  • CISA (the US cyber-security agency): MEND downloads the public list of known exploited vulnerabilities when you run the vulnerability check. It is a plain download; nothing about your computer is sent beyond what any web request shows, such as your IP address.
  • Microsoft: only if you press Install for me on the Recovery page. MEND downloads Microsoft’s small installers for the Windows ADK and the Windows PE add-on from Microsoft’s own links, checks that Microsoft signed them, and runs them (Microsoft’s installers then download about 1 GB). You see what will be downloaded and accept Microsoft’s license terms first. Nothing about you or your computer is sent beyond what any download shows, such as your IP address.
  • GitHub: only when you press Check for updates in Settings. MEND asks GitHub’s public releases list for the newest version number and compares it with yours. Nothing about you, your license or your computer is sent beyond what any web request shows, such as your IP address. MEND never checks on its own and never installs an update by itself.
  • Links (repair-shop search, Apple support) open in your browser only when you click them.
  • Email support opens your own email program with the MEND version and your system type filled in. You see it and decide whether to send it.

Anonymous usage counts (only if you say yes)

  • Off until you choose. MEND asks once, the first time it opens. Nothing is recorded or sent before you answer. You can change your choice in Settings at any time, and MEND works the same either way.
  • Sent to Code Crafted Nexus LLC, if you opt in: a random ID made on your computer (not linked to your name, email or license), your system type (Windows or Mac), the MEND version, and simple counts: a fix was run and whether it worked, a cleanup ran and about how many MB it freed, the large-file scan or speed test was used, the AI assistant was used, a report was exported, and when the app is opened.
  • Never sent: your files or file names, scan results, what was found on your computer, passwords, or anything you type. Your IP address is visible to the server as for any internet request; it is not stored with the counts.
  • Turning it off stops it immediately and deletes any counts not yet sent.

What MEND never does

  • No advertising or crash reporting, and no usage counts unless you opt in (see above).
  • It does not update itself. You download new versions when you choose to.
  • It never runs a fix without your approval, and it logs every fix.

If MEND ever adds a new kind of connection, it will be added to this page and to the privacy policy before it ships.
